CV Writing
Features and benefits - does your CV sell yours?
Hiring managers are bandwidth limited - grab their attention quickly
!
Does your CV do this or have you just used the same language as everyone else? “team orientated”, “seasoned”, “highly motivated, “driven” etc….
The first page of your CV is your opportunity to persuade the reader to continue reading. Even if you are not naturally bullish your CV is a marketing document and needs to achieve the aim of securing further interest. Highlight your unique suitability for the role.
Your wow features - what sets you apart?
Why should the company meet you?
Will you make them money and have a demonstrable track record of over delivery?
Are you the technology evangelist to drive their product roadmap?
Will you deliver a project on time and within budget?
Whatever you may offer tell them very clearly.
Are you achievements current?
If not, why not?
Put yourself in the reader’s shoes, they will automatically assume that you have not been successful in the last few years.
Unless of course you designed the first mobile handset or pioneered other ground breaking technology - they are allowed to remain for eternity J
Blue sky, out the box thought leader?
Avoid corporate speak that might not mean anything outside of your organisation.
Tailor your CV for every opportunity
Whilst it is additional work do not assume one document will fit all.
